The mind boggles ...

So this is my third hellopeter complaint regarding Telkom for what should have been a simple online order for their "Deal of the month contract".

After failing to respond to the online order, and failing to deliver on time - I am now told that it IMPOSSIBLE to complete the port that I requested during the online application process without going into a store. I shudder to think at the millions of rands Telkom spends on both its online/call centre infrastructure which can't deliver.

Since (finally) receiving the phone I have been bounced around Telkom call centre department - from Sales->Customer Care->Porting->Contract-> Customer Care - where I finally got an answer to say my port is in process. Today 6 days later, when the port was not completed I called CustomerCare->Sales->Porting->Contracts again - and was told the only way I can port my number was to go into a store - which defeats the purpose of trying to buy it online in the first place. (It is not possible for me to into a store).

I explained the whole story to a manager at Contracts department today - and she refused to help me - saying I have to go into a store. @Telkom - I can't use the contract if the number doesn't port, and I can't go into a store. You can come and collect the device and sim card from my home address, but I refuse to pay a penalty as your product was misrepresented. I would prefer it if you could just get someone, somewhere at Telkom to process the port as was indicated through the online process.

Reviewer Update

I am gratified and relieved that I got a call from William Letwaba from Telkom Social Media division, who was friendly, helpful and capable and proceeded to submit the port request in a matter of minutes. The port went through successfully, and everything seems to work fine.

While I admire Telkom's prompt and efficient complaints resolution process - it remains a shame that none of the other 7 people I spoke to at Telkom call centres over the past week were willing and/or able to help me.
