The great Telkom *****-up

It all started in April 2016 when I decided to move house, I called Telkom in advance and told them I would be moving and would like to relocate my services, and they said everything is fine, I would just need to get a new number as I would be moving to a new area. In this case, Centurion to Brooklyn.

It is important to note that I have been with Afrihost for my ADSL line speed and data for over a year at this point, only paying Telkom R189 per month for line rental, and thus the max amount I can pay to Telkom is R200 as I limited it at that amount.

Everything went as smoothly as it could at first, my line was relocated to my new place, it took a month to be activated unfortunately however it was up and running and all was well. Then two months later I started getting smses about how I was overdue on paying for my account. This problem persisted until November where I was finally able to fix the problem.

The problem was that Telkom had left my old line active in my previous place of residence! They were charging me for two lines every month for 8 months, and then I found out something even more concerning, they had added a data account to my currently used line, 4mb/s account to be exact. So I was paying for two lines and a data account I had never asked for or used. It took 19 phone calls, 5 disputes and e-mailing their separate financial department to finally get the extra data package cancelled and the old line cancelled.

I never asked for any additional packages ever, I had my packages with Afrihost already and the fact that they messed up THIS badly on two fronts was ridiculous. I have been very patient with Telkom, and I thought that this problem was finally resolved in November but I was wrong. The huge overdue amount of R3000+ is still on my account even though all the problems have been resolved, which means my account is currently suspended.

I do not have my own internet access due to Telkom’s numerous mistakes. I phoned them twice in the last week to try fix this problem, being promised calls from their managers and for the issue to be dealt with and they never contacted me back. In total I've lost R120 airtime just trying to fix this simple problem. I have tried using their live chat but they still did not resolve my issue. I need to move house in 15 days where I will only have my own internet, if my account is suspended I will be unable to do my work (I work in IT) as well as everything else we do online on a daily basis.

All in all my experience with Telkom has been horrific and it is still stunting me right now, I don't know how to fix this problem as no matter how many times I contact them, via e-mail, live chat or phone call. They continue to fail me.
