The absolutly most pathetic serivce I have ever received from any company EVER and that is saying a lot!!!
I am disgusted that our only fixed line telephone service in this country is as pathetic as Telkom!
In July my grandmother passed away and I was left to manage her estate, one of the things to manage was the transfer of her telkom fixed line into my name and that is where the joke started.
We were not able to do anything via the phone and were directed to go into a branch, Alberton City Telkom branch is my closest. At the branch they listed the items we needed to transfer the line of which I had everything with me. We proceeded to do the transfer but I was told that I would have to come back as thier fingerprint machine was not working. I did go back and when explaining the situation no one seemed to have record of the change into my name so we did that all over again.
I was told that the line would continue to work as usual. By the time I got home the line was in emergency mode and not picking up the network. I phoned in and was told I woul dhave to go back to the branch where I did the change over again.
Again I went to the branch and the lady looked at the profile and I was told the number was on my name and everything is working fine. I insisted that it wasn;t and after calling another department she said she found the issue and the issue was the number had been activated on one system of Telkoms but not another and that it was now activated and it would be up and running in a couple of hours.
After 24 hours the phone was showing that it was reconnected to the telkom network. But when I tried to make a call it gave me a message that I did not have sufficient funds to make the call... IT IS A LANDLINE NUMBER!!!
I then fustrated with the Alberton branch went to the branch in New Market Mall where to thier credit they did try to help but the system once again said everything was fine. They called another department and asked them to help while talking to them they said something along the lines of the number showed on thier side that it was in the process of being moved from a copper cable to the new wireless syste, IT WA DONE ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO already, so the person at that department said they would ook into it and I should hold. After over 20 minutes on the call the line dropped and they never bother getting back to me.
I have called again and be put through the run around again and the call is dropped everytime and never has anyone come back to me.
Today I called and demanded that they fix the problem or cancel the line altogether, I was put through to the retentions department and spoke to a lady who after explaining the situation put me through to a different retentions department where I spoke to Hlengiwe. I was under the assumption, incorrectly, that Telkom has a retentions department to retain customers. I explained again the entire story to her and was met with nothing but bad attitude and when demanding assitance she did not even try, just said that the phones dont come with minutes. I asked her to cancel the line immidietly upon which she recited the cancelations terms and conditions and asked for my approval and assumably cancelled the line and the contract. Not so much as a "can i look into this" or "can I ask my manager" or "can i get someone to call you back"
In the very small off chance there is anyone at telkom who actually cares about customer retention or customer service for that matter the reference number I was given was: ***A
