Telkom’s Utter Negligence: Paying Customer Left Stranded for 3 Days!

At 2 a.m. on Tuesday, I received two SMS notifications from Telkom on both of my contracted mobile numbers, stating: "Your service has been interrupted plse contact the 8.ta call centre on 081 180. Regards 8.ta Team." The message seemed dubious due to spelling errors, and I suspected it might be a ****. However, it has now been three days without service, which has caused significant inconvenience.

Attempts to reach the Telkom call center were met with frustrating loops, where I would select an option, only to be sent back to the main menu. Seeking help, I visited the Telkom store at Musgrave Centre in Durban, only to be told that they do not handle billing queries and that I should contact the call center. When I asked them to escalate the issue, they reluctantly attempted to call but quickly gave up after a few minutes, claiming they couldn't get through.

After more attempts, I finally reached a call center agent, who confirmed that my payments were up-to-date, with no missed payments since the beginning of my contract. Despite this, my service remains disrupted.

This lack of accountability and initiative from Telkom's staff is beyond disappointing. I expect my service to be restored immediately and appropriate measures taken to prevent such issues from recurring.

Further more, I tweeted my dissatisfaction with Telkom and an agent responded with my billing information on my timeline, stating i owe over R12 000.00 and have exceeded my credit limit. Not only is this incorrect, but Telkom has had NUMEROUS opportunities to engage with me and they decide to put VERY WRONG information on that platform. To say that i am disappointed is an understatement. I am extremely livid at the blatant ineptitude.

I contacted Telkom a few weeks ago to request a downgrade on both my contracts. They processed my request and explained to me that i would be debited my normal fee at the end of August and that from September onwards, the new amount would commence. At the end of August, my normal instalment was debited and i received data as per the new downgraded contract. On the 2nd of September (after services had been working just fine) i received the smses about services being disrupted and have had no service since.

When i eventually spoke to an agent, MBALI KHUMANE (Sp) on ref: ***1 said that the downgrade had been processed only on one of my products and not the other. she would escalate the matter and it would be resolved within 72 hours. She confirmed receipt of my payment and explained that the device amount had not been split into instalments for the remaining term but charged to me for the full amount outstanding. Your calls are recorded, how hard is it to request the recording and get to the crux of the matter?? you guys just don't care about anything but sales. Dealing with you is painful and debilitating.

I am DISGUSTED with whomever responded to my tweet with that brazenness. Can a human being actually CALL ME and tell me what is going on with BOTH my accounts and when this will be resolved? Not ONE single email address works at Telkom. I cannot even file a formal complaint!
