Telkom's unreliable internet provision is placing the studies and careers of hundreds of thousands of students at risk
I teach at various universities across South Africa. I often am required to teach off digital platforms. My students learn off digital platforms. Telkom are for the most part, my students' primary "internet provider". Their future careers, are dependent on reliable internet connectivity. Telkom are an unreliable and *********** "internet provider". I logged a complaint about the loss of internet connectivity to Telkom's Call Centre, nine days ago. In spite of numerous useless and time consuming conversations with the Call Centre, I am still not connected. Telkom's uses their call centre as an instrument to fob off its customers into a void. They are an 08:00 - !7:00 business and nothing happens. They do not offer any urgent service. Telkom are ineffective, unresponsive and time-wasting bureaucratic Telkom shows alarming symptoms of becoming yet another failed State Owned Enterprise. They are comatose. They hold a monopoly on the provision of internet in South Africa. Removing yourself from a relationship with this toxic internet "provider", is difficult. They have a monpoly on the internet infrastructure in South Africa. Its customers are also locked an unresponsive contractual relationship. Telkom's inability to provide reliable internet is placing the careers and learning of hundreds and thousands of students at risk. Their service rating is zero.
