Telkom's Refusal to cancel a service
Last year i was relocated from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. On the Saturday 24th June 2017, i went in to the local Telkom branch at the Bridge Greenacres, and filled in all the relevant paperwork, they made copies of the forms, and my ID, then stated that the cancellation would be done in 30 days. This was fine, as I was aware of this 30 day period, it was also mentioned that I would have to pay for the month of July, again, I was fine with that as it was expected.
Imagine my surprise when I receive an invoice at the end of August 2017, stating that I need to pay for my Telkom line, which should have been cancelled end of July already... I thought maybe its just a mistake, and let it go. End September, I receive another invoice for a service that was supposed to be cancelled. I proceeded to contact Telkom, the attendant on the live chat said that it was a error on their end, and that he will be lodging a dispute, and that someone will contact me... No one ever did. End of November the same thing happened again, this time I actually went to a Telkom branch in Cape Town, as i no longer lived in the Port Elizabeth, in fact the property the line is registered to is not even in my name anymore, as it was sold in August. They told me they can not see any request for cancellation on their system, and that the line is still active, and in my name.
I was then requested to fill in another set of cancellation forms, and this was back dated to the 24th of June, as per the original cancellation. I was told this will be processed and the line should be cancelled at the end on the month.
By the end of December I have already had to make 3 visits to a Telkom branch, in two separate cities, again I get invoiced, again, I go in to the Telkom branch in Canal Walk, again I get told there is no request for cancellation. This time I request to speak to a manager, again I have to fill in cancellation form, which again gets back dated to the 24th of June 2017, again they tell me they will escalate it. This time I receive a case number, this time it actually looks like its being cancelled. on the 16th of January 2018 i receive SMS confirmation that my case is resolved and the line is cancelled. On the 18th I receive a SMS telling me I need to pay them the outstanding arrears, or they hand me over. So I need to pay them for people that do not do their jobs?
Today I went into the Telkom branch in Canal Walk, inquiring about this outstanding amount, i was told they will log a dispute... again... and that someone will call me. I was contacted by a Telkom representative a few minutes later, and guess what the told me, that the account is still active and not cancelled. After i received confirmation that it was.
Telkom's service is absolutely **********. They are quick enough to sign you up, and take your money, but comes time to cancel a service, they just refuse to do anything...
