Telkoms inefficiency
I took out a cellphone contract and a modem contract with Telkom on the 23rd November 2018 at a branch in Sandton, Jhb. The first few days of having the cellphone contract were fine, I didnt really have problems. In the first week of December 2018, I began to experience problems with the network on the cellphone which I didnt understand. I then called Telkom and a consultant advised me that there was a problem with the network and that the technicians were busy with it. My husband uses the modem at work and there is some network coverage at his work, but he hardly uses the modem so the modem doesn't really have an issue. Being it my first time on the Telkom network, I carried on with the contract, but the network issues still persisted. I went on holiday abroad for a week and when I returned, the network issues were still there. I called Telkom again to explain to them that I still cannot use the phone as I do not have network. I cannot make or receive calls and I cannot use the internet. I basically cannot do anything. Telkom then turned around and said that the branch where I took out the contract was supposed to check if there is network coverage in my area before giving me the contract, but they did not do this. I then asked the consultant on the phone to please cancel my contract as I cannot be paying R800/month for a contract which I cannot use over 80% of the time. She advised me to go to go to a Telkom store and cancel the contract there. the nearest Telkom store is over 350km away from Dundee. Upon arriving at the Telkom store, you have to take a ticket number which shows each consultant exactly what you are there for. All the consultants saw we were there to do a cancellation and nobody attended to us for over an hour. when I eventually fought to get assistance, they told me they do not have the mandate to cancel a contract, I need to call Telkom and do it over the phone or online. So just look at this so far, I phoned to cancel first, the consultant said I must go to a branch. I go to the branch and wait over an hour just to be told that I must phone. In other words, I am a puppet being sent from one end to another and still not receiving assistance to cancel the contract. I then proceeded to do the cancellation online on the 27th December 2018 and received a message saying my query will be attended to with case number ********** 7. By the 11th of January nobody had contacted me regarding my request for cancellation. I have called numerous times since then and each time I have to explain the entire story to a different person and just keep receiving new query numbers and they tell me the old query case has been closed. How can it be closed when the issue at hand has not been sorted? I have spoken to so many consultants and each of them tell me different things regarding the cancellation. i even requested to speak to a superior and spoke to Patrick Peterson and he assured me on the 1st of March, that before the end of bussiness, someone will contact me and to date, I am still waiting. Telkom keep saying they sending technicians to come see whats going on but nobody comes. Why is it taking them so long to come and see that I'm not talking a load of bull**** , there is no network where I am!! They need to come and see. I try making a call and it says not registered on the telkom network. I am very disappointed with Telkom and it is very frustrating and draining. I need to know what is happening with my case. When are the technicians coming to see that there is no network where I am? When is this contract going to be cancelled? It's going on 3 months now and it is evident that nobody seems to be interested in helping me. I called now in the week and the lady said I will be charged a huge amount for cancelling the contract, something almost equivallent to what I would have spent throughout the contract period. I don't understand why will I be charged for cancelling the contract when it is not my fault that there is no network coverage where I am. The salesperson at the branch where I took out the contract failed to check for network coverage as he was only interested in the sale of the contract, now I will be penalised for his negligence. Even the modem, if we try using it at home, there i no network coverage, so my husband leaves it at work. in conclusion, I just want Telkom to cancel my contract with the cellphone without penalising me as there is no network coverage where I am and that is not my fault.
