Telkom’s Billing Error Repeated – Now I’m Expected to Pay Again

I am extremely frustrated with the way Telkom has handled my account and debit orders.

I originally took out a data contract with Telkom and later added an additional SIM card for my wife. Instead of placing the additional SIM under my existing account/debit order, Telkom created a separate account and, for reasons I do not understand, used my OLD banking details for the second debit order.

Because those banking details were no longer the account I use for these payments, the debit order was unsuccessful and the number was subsequently suspended.

I contacted Telkom immediately to resolve the matter. I explained what had happened and was advised that the issue would be corrected so that the accounts/payments would be properly consolidated. Despite the problem not being caused by me, I paid the outstanding amount and associated charges so that the matter could be resolved.

I reasonably expected that to be the end of it.

A month later, I discovered that Telkom had NOT fixed the problem. They attempted the second debit order against the same old banking account again, resulting in another unsuccessful debit order, another late payment and additional charges.

This is unacceptable.

I reported the problem the first time, followed Telkom’s instructions and paid the amount required. Telkom had an entire month to correct their own administrative error, yet exactly the same thing happened again.

I should not have to keep paying penalties and additional charges because Telkom failed to implement a correction that I had already requested.

Telkom should take responsibility for the error and resolve this properly instead of passing the financial consequences of their administrative mistake on to me.
