telkom worse than loan sharks keeps loading charges onto account

In December 2015 after much difficulty I managed to get a Telkom adsl line installed and took advantage of the smarthome package for R650 pm. By mid-December I received the complimentary sim cards and my line was installed a few days later. I was advised at that stage that my debit order would be capped at R650 a month and that my first instalment would be on a pro-rata basis.

In March 2016 I receive a sms indicating that my account was R1425.43 overdue and I called the contact centre and was told that at any given moment my account would reflect two instalments due as the next month’s charges are loaded onto my account. June 28 my line was suspended for the first time but re-activated the next day once the debit order went off. On 25 July my account was suspended again. When I queried why, I soon found out that my first debit order was not a pro-rata debit but rather the activation fee for the sim cards and the pro-rata debit went on in the second month. The second issue was that additional call charges amounting to an average R15 month was not being paid because of the R650 capped debit order. Once realising this I changed my debit order cap and paid the R1500 outstanding under duress because I needed to line to be active. On 19 September my line was suspended again this time I find out that once I paid the R1500, Telkom charged me over R700 re-activation fees for the adsl, and the two sim cards. I disputed the charge and was issued a R400 credit note. My fear is if I settle the account again Telkom will reload re-activation fees, just like a loan shark I will never be up-to-date.

I have spent hours the phone and have not completely resolved anything. What’s worse is that is that I have asked for recordings of previous calls and apparently Telkom does not make these recording available to customers. I would appreciate it if a person who has the ability to really address the issue rather than waste my time telling me what I already know. Telkom FREE ME from your inability to comprehend your own systems.
