Telkom wont repair phone as out of warranty - wont even quote

I took a handset in for repair (a fixed-line look-a-like phone) twice and each time the phone came back with the comment that it cant be fixed as it is out of its warranty period. I understand that that being the case I would need to pay for it - but there doesnt seem to be an option to get a quote. They just wont fix it as it is out of warranty. So now I need to buy a new one. This doesnt seem to make any sense - unless of course the repair fees are in excess of the cost of a new phone.
