Telkom very bad service and misleading the clients

We took out a new contract R899.00 per month for 20 mbps speed unlimited usage, however they explained to us all megabites we use above 150gig will be restricted down to 4 or 2 mbps. which we did not have a problem with because we were not planning on using more than 100gigs per month anyway.

When we got home and installed the Huawei router and sim card we ran a speed test and we only got just under 7 mbps. We thought maybe its because is Sunday and everybody is home and using the internet that why this is happening. However when we tried a speed test again the next day Monday we only got between 10 to 11 mbps. We then called Telkom but no service was received. We then called an outside contractor who used to work for Telkom for 20 years and now run his own company to investigate what could be the problem. He was very busy but gave us a date when he could sort the problem out. He then did a speedtest again only plus minus 11 mbps. We told him we need to run our security system as well as out Solar system on the internet and the mbps is just to slow.

He then installed a Antenna / Signal extender to see if the reception would be better, but again still the same very low mbps. He installed his own Telkom sim card into the router and it ran between 50 to 70 mbps, we then realized that Telkom gave us a sim card that would only run around 10 mbps, so we did not get the package that we signed on for!!!!!

We went back to the Telkom office and told the lady she would have to give us another sim card or cancel the contract. We would rather take the other contract for 1TB and unlimited mbps. She cancelled the contract and told us we would still have to pay for the router R1999-00 and R800 for service used for the nearly 3 weeks. She also said the we would have to call Telkom on the 10213 number to order the 1TB unlimited mbps contract. Which we did and all was running well.

Yesterday 6 October 2020 we received an invoice for nearly R5000-00. the additional amount above the original R 2799-00 that she told us we would have to pay is some kind on penalty??? What the hell is this for.

According to the consumer act of SA, we as the client signed up for a contract and services we did not receive so why should we now also pay a penalty for cancelling the contract when we never received what we signed up for and no service delivery???

Why did this consultant not tell us about the 1TB contract that Telkom offer, and give us the necessary guidance to make an informative decision. Also not giving us what we requested originally!!!
