Telkom Uncapped LTE ****!
In November 2019 I was contacted by a sales person working for Telkom. He told me that Telkom is phasing out their copper wire network, and that our ADSL service will stop working within two weeks.
I should mention that at that point I have had an ADSL Line for nearly 4 years, first on 4Mb Uncapped and then later I switched over to 10Mb Uncapped.
The gentleman then offered me a 10Mb Uncapped LTE package. I explicitly asked him, several times, if we will have the same deal in terms of Internet service, and he assured me we will. In fact he told me that my Up speed on LTE will be faster.
This seemed like great news, since I am a Software and Web Developer, and have to constantly work remotely on servers in SA as well as overseas.
So I switched over to LTE (out of fear of loosing connectivity in two weeks), and initially all went well. The LTE performed much better, and my connections to remote servers were faster.
However, we switched over halfway during November 2019, so November I did not notice any issues. In December, Mossel Bay was flooded with holiday makers, and this is where I noticed a considerable drop in Internet speed. Some day it was less than 50Kb/s during peak times. I asked around and was told by people in the area this is normal during holidays. Well now, I personally felt this is completely UNACCEPTABLE.
Then halfway during December I noticed the internet is REALLY slow. This is when I discovered this Fair Use Policy **** of Telkom. The "10Mb Uncapped LTE" service I was paying R799.00 p/m for, is 10Mb Throttled package. Aparently all their packages are throttled after the first 150Gb.
This infuriated me so much I wanted to smash this useless LTE **** I was sold by a deceiving Telkom Salesman.
Now 150Gb may seem fair to the uncle or auntie wanting the usual Internet or Email services. It is completely USELESS to me. I do not stream Netflix, or play online games. I ACTUALLY use the internet for my income. On ADSL I averaged 300Gb per month. I do make use of YouTube, since I watch alot of videos to do with Software and Web Development. But my main reason for my internet service is so I can log into my own web server where my websites and databases are hosted, and also log into remote servers of my clients when I do development work.
To top it all off, my telephone handset connected to this ******* Huawei B35 LTE Router cuts off the first time someone phones me. When I pick the handset up I just hear the dial tone. If the person trying to phone me immediately phones again, the call actually connect. Explain this **** to me, How do you run a business when you phone line cuts out when people phone you.
So please Telkom, explain to me how you expect me to continue my daily job as a software and web developer, when between your ******* LTE service and Eskom's Load Shedding **** I cannot run my business properly. I am actually loosing money in billable hours, because halfway through the month I am FORCED to use 4Mb down 1Mb Up, which makes it impossible to work on remote servers, especially overseas.
I am fed-up, you took my ADSL (stable internet) away, Fibre is not yet available in our area, and am now stuck with your LTE bull****!
I am writing this because I am angry. I am trying to make an honest living and you are DIRECTLY affecting my pocket with your poor service delivery.
I am also writing this to warn other people NOT to fall for this *******. Telkom Uncapped LTE is a complete conn. If you still have ADSL, hold on to it until they physically remove the copper cables, else get Fibre if you can.
Telkom Uncapped LTE is absolute complete and utter BULL****, and it;s a **** in my eyes. R799 pm for 10m Uncapped half the month. DISGUSTING!!!
