Telkom, Unauthorised Disconnection of Business Line, after 15 Years

Dear Telkom,

Please urgently provide me with the name of the head of Public Relations at Telkom as I specifically want to inform him/her of this complaint so that they are fully aware of it prior to me taking this to the media.

Kindly note the following:

You disconnected my business line without my consent, authorisation or request. This is ********, unconstitutional and downright dysfunctional.

Despite trying repeatedly to make contact with Telkom for two months (2 months without business!!) and being given various reference numbers, it is only when I contacted Hello Peter last Friday, 16.9.2016 that Telkom suddenly sat up and took notice and responded to the complaint.

Your allocation of MY business line to another business is not my problem. It is your problem that you need to sort out.

It has however become a huge financial problem due to the loss of business we have suffered at the hands of Telkom for the past two months – I am talking about losses in the region of R100 000 per month. You appear to be more worried about the couple of hundred rand costs associated with issuing business cards that the new company has incurred that YOU IN ERROR gave to this company than the crippling cost of turnover to my business that supports 4 families and their extended families.

How can allocating another number (e.g. my old fax number) possibly improve my situation? How would any of my clients know that by phoning my old fax number, they are going to reach me.

I have no interest in whether or not you can persuade the new company to give back MY number. It has been my telephonic business line direct to my business since 2000. And while the fault does not lie with the new company that Telkom gave my telephone number to, they have only just received this number. It was activated last Thursday (15.9.2016). Up until that date, the line was dead. If Telkom needs to reimburse them for their business cards, then Telkom needs to take responsibility – that is not my concern. I HAVE MUCH BIGGER CONCERNS THAN THIS! For example, massive financial loss of income when salaries, insurance, petrol, rent still needs to be paid. Not to mention my Yellow Pages that is attached to this business number.

Had Telkom responded with any meaningful response since I started this investigation 2 months ago, we would not be in this position. But alas, Telkom did not seem to know what the problem was. Just that I had been disconnected with no reason/s provided.

You have 7 days to get this sorted. I am going to take this to John Robbie of Radio 702 and Keano Kammies of 567 Cape Talk – both on the morning shows and both having dealt with Telkom issues over the years. The number of complaints to Hello Peter every hour relating to Telkom’s shoddy service is astounding. And yet, it continues.

Please urgently provide me with the name of the head of Public Relations at Telkom.

Rod Bendix
