Telkom unable to offer a cell phone contract to previous victim of identity theft
I app**** for a mobile phone from Telkom - Fourways mall branch, so I app**** at the one next to checkers. I supp**** Telkom with all required documentation and they declined me with the reason "It says your credit threshold is low". I logged into the Credit Bureaus to check my score, it was way above what Telkom required but then I realized that my account has been flagged that it was once linked to *****, but I was a victim because someone stole my identity and tried to commit ***** with it. I therefore submitted the Southern African ***** Prevention Service (SAFPS) to prove my identity and Telkom still continued to decline me. It is sad that victims of identity theft get victimized over and over again by inflexible and insensitive organizations such as Telkom. I explained my story to two staff members including the store manager but no one bothered to intervene, in fact none of them bothered to provide me with feedback I had to call in to get feedback that they declined me again even after I escalated the matter. The funny thing is that this occurred in 2013 but I was able to apply for a bond and a vehicle from other institutions without experiencing any issues, but Telkom feels that I am not deserving of their phone. If you have been a victim of ***** forget that you will get any form of help form Telkom.
