Telkom: The company that just couldn't give a ****

This is my first review, but something tells me that this website has had its fair share of reviews concerning Telkom.

We have been unfortunate enough to have a 4meg line with Telkom for over 7 years and our experience has been so overwhelmingly bad that I went as far as to get emplyed by their ADSL tech department just so I could find out what could be done to get the service they promise you will get.

The short answer is this...You will not be getting what you pay for.

What you will be getting are long and illogical automated phone menues that make you input the same data over and over again, suicidal phone operators that are barely audible or speak your required language and techinicians that either have no idea what they are doing besides turning things off and on again or are so indifferent to your plight that they don't bother to show up but have the cheek to then send you and SMS saying the problem is fixed.

In our 7 years of torture, we have had close to 23 technicians come and "inspect" our line, and it took 22 technicians plus a short employment just to find out that if you are far away from the exchange, you are going to have a bad line. We actually had a technician look us dead in the eye and tell us "if you want a better line, move house" and leave without another word.

The truth is that giving their customers quality service costs money that is better off going to bonuses and they do what ever they can to confuse and defuse you by making you wait hours on the phone or throw long and complex jargon until you eventually give up and just except what you have.

If you are new to the high-speed internet world and are looking for a provider but don't you really know who to go with, I have two pieces of advice for you.

1: Make sure your line rental and ISP are the same, otherwise when you do phone in with a fault, you will get the "Its the other companies fault dance"

2: For the love of all that is holy, avoid Telkom at all costs, go wireless if you have to, you will save yourself a world of pain.

I hope in some way this rant helps someone avoid what we had to endure and you can be sure that the moment fibre FINALLY becomes available in our area of westridge we will be saying sayonara to Telkom and never EVER looking back.
