Telkom The Blighty

In April this year I went to Telkom in Somerset Mall and requested cancellation of my landline. (At the same time I cancelled my ADSL line with my service provider, which btw went off without a hitch.) They proceeded to tell me that I had to fill in a form and mail it to an e-mail address they provided. I promptly did it and requested my line be terminated by End May... (I received a confirmation that Telkom received that mail... but that was it) A month and a half later I queried the line again as Telkom was silent and again, Telkom gave me the silent treatment. This carried on until July/August this year and on a hunch, I decided to query them again, but this time resend the application to show them I was serious.
And lo and behold, a new confirmation of receipt... and a week or two later they advised they would be cancelling the line. Really? In the interim they expect that I should be paying for a line that should have been cancelled in May already? I feel, in the sense of being reasonable, why did Telkom ignore three months odd worth of mails and only react when they realised I wasn't going to go away? IN fact, in all reasonability, why am I supposed to pay for Telkom's mistakes? Or is it my fault that Telkom don't respond to their mails?
I'm sorry Telkom, but to be honest, your service sucks. My ISP had constant comms with me and the DSL line was cancelled without a hitch. You guys on the other hand just couldn't be bothered.
