Telkom taking advantage over the elderly

Telkom has been billing a pensioner R400.00 which is being paid from his grant on a monthly basis, we have tried to apply for a discount on his billing and contacted the call center who advised that he isn't 70 years old and is required go in-store for a pensioners discount. The consultant at the Phoenix branch had then advised him that there isnt any applicable discounts and they are unable to assist. We then contacted the call center once again and re-iterated that he could not be assisted in-store. The consultant had then advised that the pensioners application for discount can be done telephonically however, the billing needs to be brought up to date. I then stressed that any arrear amount was due to his affordability and requested that a discount be app**** accordingly. The consultant was not able to assist and requested I call back. We had settled the account and called back for the discount application however from this point on, no consultant was able to assist and no manager had returned my call. Telkom understands that the landline is vital for an elderly individual however they are taking advantage over the aged. This pensioner now has a bill of R800.00 of which needs to be paid from a old age grant of R1800.00, still having to account for his monthly necessities.
