Telkom service is non-existent

For the past month I have been trying to transfer my long-standing landline number to a new property. First of all, Telkom has suspended the line so it is no longer operational to even attempt a transfer. Secondly, I was advised that I cannot transfer a number - which apparently is not the case as I discovered from an outsourced company that does installations for Telkom. Apparently it is within the region - i.e. (011) so it can be done. I even have a reference number of a sample case. The fact that I am moving to an adjacent suburb makes no difference to my pleas. It's a case of: "Don't confuse me with the facts".

Yesterday - after numerous trips to Cresta branch and calls to the Customer Service number - I spent about 60 minutes on my mobile trying to establish the state of the reinstatement of line (011) ********** . After being told it has been cleared for reinstatement - whatever that means (perhaps Telkom are actually taking responsibility for the cost as I assured them I wouldn't be) - now there is some technical fault which is hampering progress. I finally got through to an Oren Ori who reassured me I would hear from him or his manager, Kasaval Naido, today via email or cell. Needless to say - not a ****ie so I ended up trying to call them. Oren wasn't available and Kasaval knew nothing about the matter - despite Oren having told me he'd discussed with him the situation and there would be an investigation as to why my line had been cut off in the first place. My only option now is to just give up on the reinstatement of number and attempted - and request installation of a brand new number. Since I run a business, this isn't ideal but I cannot deal any more with Telkom's ineptitude. It is a microcosm of what is happening in the country - in other words, we're becoming another basket case like the rest of Africa.
