Telkom & SellDirect

I was contacted on the 22nd of August by an agent regarding a FreeMe plan for R139.00 per month. After a lengthy discussion, I accepted, but at no time during the conversation, was I informed that I would get a new number and that it would be a new contract. I was under the impression that this plan would be added on to / merged with my existing contract/number. If you listen to the recording, you will hear that I questioned the agent what I would pay a month. I asked him if I would only be paying R139.00 a month, nothing more, and he agreed. This was not true – I have to pay R139.00 for the new package and R149.00 for my current package a month. He even compared packages with me so that I was led to believe that it was an add-on / merge to my existing contract. I even asked the agent if I was to be penalised because I had upgraded 6 months ago. I know that you can be penalised when you change / upgrade packages before the end of the term. He said no, so I was convinced that I would be receiving an add-on / merge package. When I was contacted on Monday by the SellDirect agent, he mentioned to me that there was no SIM package, so again I assumed that this was an add-on/merge. When I received the parcel, I opened the package and there was a SIM and a phone. I installed the SIM in the phone under the impression that a new SIM had been issued (for my existing number) with the add-on/merge loaded on. I was contacted for SIM activation by SellDirect and I assumed that it would be for my existing number and I was not informed otherwise by the agent or given the new cell number.

The phone call lasted 16 minutes and 17 seconds (the phone call came through at 13h44 on the 22nd of August 2016) and I asked loads of questions regarding this and I cannot recall at any point being told that this was an entirely new contract and number. I have no use for 2 cell phone numbers and no use for an additional cell phone contract. I can afford 1 (ONE) package only. Why would I use 1 number and package and when this runs out, use another number on another package….that does not make any sense at all. I use my cell phone for business (self-employed) and that would confuse my clients. The agent even asked me if I had my old Vodacom number and I said that I did not and I had allowed it to lapse. I am also still waiting for the agent to send through the terms and conditions on e-mail as he promised on the 22nd of August. He even mentioned his supervisor would be sending this through.

What happens now because I do not want 2 numbers and I do not want a very expensive Hauwei phone? How can this be resolved because I was sold something different to what I have received. I have opened both the phone and the SIM but the phone is unused. I have been trying desperately to phone SellDirect, but the calls gets cut off. I went on the internet to check their contact numbers and find that I am not the only one trying to contact them. This sounds fishy business and I am not a very happy Telkom customer at the moment.

Please advise urgently as to how this is resolved.
