Telkom *****s R1700 from me
I went to Telkom to get a router for myself and was advised to first get a normal SIM card and check the connection where I stayed and if it was good I should come back. I did that, went home and the connection was okay. I then came back and signed a contract with Telkom and took my router home. They said it should take a few hours for the network to start operating. I went home and set it up and waiting for the connection to start operating. I waited and waited and waiting. After a few days of waiting, around 3-5 days I think no more than a week, I went back and told them I would like to return my router as it’s not working and asked them if I have to pay a fee, they said no since it was still within their grace period. I went home and everything was sorted. End of the month I get a statement from Telkom stating I owe over R2000. I went back them and they also in store said I shouldn’t be owing and that they would make a case for me. I then received a call from Telkom a few weeks after I went to the store. I explained everything to them and they agree to remove my bills and said I don’t owe them anything. That all happened in August 2024. Late December 2024 I get a call from debt collectors calling me on behalf of Telkom for a bill of R1700. They have been bombarding me all the way into the new year and when I answer I always ask them the same thing “Send me a detailed bill of what I owe from Telkom” and I never receive that. Now today, 27 January 2025, I receive an email from the debt collectors stating that they will continue with legal action and will forcibly withdraw the amount in question from my account. I don’t have much and I’m a simple person but I feel the way Telkom has treated me is unjust. I hope someone from Telkom actually reads this and assists me with this.
