Telkom's Non-existent customer service

May 2015

We took out a Telkom Mobile contract for a router, including monthly data (+/-R150.00) sometime during May 2015, this was done over the phone and a debit order payment was arranged. Within a few days we received our package, a Huwai router. Very excited we tried to use it, but were unable to do so as the sim was not yet active. We phoned Telkom and was told to take it to the nearest store to RICA the sim. Did that the following day, tried a number of places, but we were unable to do so, because it was a contract sim and this had to be done by Telkom. The Telkom office in our town had closed down, so we had to wait for an opportunity when we next went somewhere else. Chucked the thing in the cupboard and life carried on. Moved house in December.

30 March 2016

My husband received an sms: Your outstanding Telkom Mobile account has been handed over to P&P Attorneys, contact out offices to avoid futher legal action. Ref no: 65R004030 Tel: (039) **********

7 April 2016

Phoned the number on the sms, spoke to Ndumiso Mkhize from P&P Attorneys. A very helpful chap, he sent me an email with a breakdown of the amount. Total came to R2984.77. I said that I would have to first have to contact Telkom and find out what this was for.

I contacted Telkom and eventually got through to someone who could assist, spoke to Eldridge Deerling. Also a very helpful chap, he sent me a statement to show what the account was and what it was for. At this stage we realised what exactly we were handed over for. Apparently no payment was ever received, and the contract was cancelled after 6 months of no payment and we were then handed over.

1. They had our number to phone us to get the contract….

2. Until I contacted Eldridge Deerling, we never had any contact from Telkom, no phone calls, no sms’s and NO statements or accounts in the post. Granted, we have moved but we stayed at the given address for 6 months after we took the contract and we received nothing in all that time.

3. When we received the statement from Eldridge at Telkom, we noted that the address was totally wrong. Not even the same town that we stayed in.

4. I have contacted Telkom numerous times and sent emails….. to date I have still not received a phone call as requested in order to sort this out.

I am not disputing that we need to pay Telkom and I will do so as soon as possible, but I need to confirm the amount that I am liable for and I refuse to pay any legal fees. I am quite sure that the reason the debit order did not go off is the same reason that our address is incorrect. The lady that phoned us for this contract was not at all capable of the job she was doing.

After complaining that it had never even worked, suddenly money was deducted from our account… by debit order. Now I ask you, how did they manage that, or does this mean that someone simply did not activate or put in place the debit order originally??

May / June / July…..

I have tried contacting Telkom, they have made minimal effort to phone me back. When I do get a phone call, it’s a new person every time with no idea of what my problem or query is. Every new person listens to my story, and will get back to me. Up to date no one has gotten back to me with a solution.

I am out of options, please can someone assist me??

This is as far as all my previous attempts have gotten me (reference number....1st contact), it's the contact after this that is the problem...

I hope this time it will be resolved.
