Telkom's complete failure to adhere to my MULTIPLE requests to cancel a landline
I have turned to hellopeter out of sheer frustration, anger and desperation at the lack of any form of customer service I have received from Telkom. On 11 January I submitted a cancellation request form to Telkom. The reason for this is because I was moving to a new apartment on 15 January. In March I received an account for the landline I had requested be cancelled and phoned Telkom to find out why I was being billed for a landline I had requested be cancelled in early January, only to be told that no request for such a cancellation had been lodged on the system. On advice from the Telkom representative I spoke with, I then re-sent my cancellation form to the cancellations department. On 4 April I received an SMS from Telkom advising that the account for this old land line was in arrears for an amount of R638 and would be suspended if payment was not made within 48 hours. That I am being charged for a landline I not only no longer use, is at an address I no longer even live at anymore, and requested be cancelled in January, is unacceptable. I phoned Telkom only to be told once again that there was no request for cancellation on the system. I was advised by the Telkom representative that she had emailed another cancellation request, cc’ing her Manager, to the cancellations department. A few days later I phoned to follow up again and I was advised that there was – once again – no record of such a request for cancellation. Caleb, the Telkom representative I spoke to, asked me to, once again, email the relevant documents to him and advised he would send this through to cancellations, cc’ing his Manager. Is it just me or is there a pattern of complete and utter incompetence here!!? I have since emailed him to follow up and received no response. The most frustrating part of all this is that the new landline at my new apartment (which by the way took Telkom over a month and a half to install because, once again, there was no record of my first request on the system following my first request) has been suspended due to the account for the old landline being in arrears. I have no phone at my current apartment because Telkom repeatedly failed to adhere to my four cancellation requests and has now suspended my new landline due to THEIR mess up. I wholeheartedly refuse to pay for a landline I not only no longer use but that I requested be cancelled in JANUARY. Caleb, the Representative I spoke with, also advised that once he received a reference number from the cancellations department he would forward this to me so I could lodge a dispute with the billings department and at least have this problem sorted out in the meantime. I am still waiting. Throughout this I have also wrote messages on Telkom’s Facebook page and am still waiting for a call that they promised I would receive twice since 7 April 2017 - almost a month ago. I have been patient, and comp**** with Telkom staff’s requests to resend my forms on multiple occasions, but now my patience is completely exhausted. Once again - the fact that I am being charged for a landline I not only no longer use, is at an address I no longer even live at anymore, and requested be cancelled in January, is unacceptable. What do I need to do to get Telkom to cancel a landline, that is within my rights as a consumer to want cancelled!!?!?!!?!?! Especially because Telkom is continuing to charge me for this landline even though it is repeatedly THEIR failure to do their job and cancel it!
