Telkom royally *****ed up my Fibre upgrade. 4 months later it's still not sorted
So I upgraded my Telkom fibre contract in August. Admittedly, it is 2020, but Telkom royally *****ed this one up. Below are the sequence of events:
- Early August - called 10213 to upgrade my fibre contract to the 100/100mbps (it was 50/5mbps) uncapped contract @ R1249. I was told i would receive a reply on the success of this application within 5 days. - No reply, so I called 2 weeks later. I was told it takes up to 15 business days to process an application, and I would receive an SMS when it was complete. - Another week without any communication, and so I phoned again. I was then told by the sales team that the contract had been approved and the 100/10mbps contract had been activated. I told them this was NOT the contract I had asked for, and had asked for 100/100. I was then told it would be escalated (Telkom's favourite word for WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO) and I would get a response via SMS in 3 days. I also noticed at this time that my line was still running at 50/5, the old speed. - A week later, after no response, I called again. I was told the escalation had been 'cleared' but the sales person did not know why. It was escalated again. - A week and a half later, no communication, so I called again. The salesperson 'did not know why it had not been resolved yet' and followed up on the escalation. I was promised a call back later that day. - Another week with no communication, I called again. This time I demanded to speak to a line manager. I blasted this poor lady due to my own frustration, but low and behold, the contract suddenly came right 10 minutes after that phone call. I called back to thank them for FINALLY fixing the issue, but also to ask; where is the router that is supposed to be delivered with the contract? The salesperson said that VUMATEL were out of stock of the router. When I said that VUMATEL don't supply the router, the service provider does, she ummed and uhhhed for a few seconds and...you guessed it...escalated it. - With the contract now fixed I called the technical department. I explained that the contract on my account was 100/10 (they checked and confirmed) but my line was still running at 50/5. After their tests did not fix it, This was ALSO escalated and would be resolved in 3 days. - A week later, no change. I called the tech dept again and was told that it had been marked as resolved. But nothing had changed. So they escalated again. This happed SIX TIMES over the next month before I once again demanded to speak to a line manager. And once again, 2 hours later, my line speed suddenly came right after that rather passionate conversation. - I called the sales team for the 4th time to follow up on my router that was supposed to be delivered (this is now mid October, 2 months after the contract was activated.) For the 4th time, I was told they would 'follow up' and I would receive an SMS. Nothing. Suddenly, mid October, my Telkom invoice went up by R430 to R1679. I called to ask why this had happened. They said it was an issue with the discount amount and LOGGED ANOTHER ESCALATION. I was promised a resolution in 72 hours. - After a week I called again. The escalation was marked as resolved. The salesperson said 'I don't know why'. It was escalated again. - After another week we did this a third time. After ANOTHER week (and a second incorrect invoice) I demanded to speak to the line manager again. The salesperson told me she was working from home and could not transfer me, but I could hear her colleagues in her office in the background! When I questioned her on it, she was silent for a few seconds, and then said 'you are going through'. SHE **** ABOUT WORKING FROM HOME! - The line manager said that the escalation was still pending (more than a week later), even though she agreed that they were clearly charging me too much. - I called the accounts dept and deactivated my debit order. I decided I would manually pay the correct amount until Telkom resolved the issue. - I called the sales team for the 6th time to ask where my router was (early December). I was once again told they would escalate it.
At the time of writing: * The escalation of the incorrect invoice amount had been 'under investigation' for over a month'. * I still have not received the router I was supposed to receive with the contract in August.
STAY AWAY FROM TELKOM PEOPLE. ONCE THIS CONTRACT ENDS I AM OUT AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
