Telkom Router issues

We took out a router with Telkom and after a few months we did not require the internet system anymore. We went to the Telkom Wonderboom branch and they notified us that we can cancel one month notice if we pay R 760.00 for the router. We have done that and paid the money in at Pick and pay. ***. Now no one can find the payment on Telkom side and suddenly we are getting accounts for R 2000+. You phone their contact centre and the people there is extremely uneducated and misinformed on what is happening in their business. If someone that can think for themselves can please phone my father on *** then we can please get an amicable solution to the problem. But telkom does not seem like they wanna help.
