Telkom router

Goodday,

I recently had my adsl line installed with Telkom.It is a 24 month contract,I received a free router.The router worked for 4 days and went "dead".(brand new).The device was booked in for repairs reference nr TRJ079669 and I received a response that it is out of warranty and deemed beyond economical repair.This is a brand new router,new contract.I was told to buy a new router.Why cant it not be replaced by Telkom??
