Telkom promised us a FREE upgrade - then tried to charge us for it - then withdrew the service !
We feel very badly let down by Telkom. They **** to us. We subscribe to a landline and 10mbps fibre internet line. We have fulfilled the conditions of our 24 month contract with them, which we commenced over 2 years ago. Around one month ago, we received a call from Telkom telling us that we were eligible for a FREE upgrade to a 20mbps fibre internet line. We responded by saying we were very happy with the news, as we work from home and find that sometimes 10mbps is not quite enough. We were told that it should be organised within around 48 hours. Around one week later, we had reason to call Telkom about a different matter and were advised that the speed upgrade should actually take 2 weeks, not 48 hours. Fast forward to yesterday, we were about to call them to ask why we had not had any speed upgrade when we noticed a demand for an extra charge of R700 on top of our normal monthly payment. We called to query this and were told it was for "new services ordered" - but we haven't ordered any new services for 2 years ! We then asked what had happened to our free fibre internet speed upgrade and were told.....there is no such thing ! The only way you get a speed upgrade is to pay extra for it. So we were blatantly **** to by Telkom one month ago, in effect they tried to trick us into paying for something they said was free. Disgusting, unprofessional, ******* - call it what you will, but I would advise anyone reading this to think twice before trusting anyone from this badly run company.
