Telkom Prepaid beware

I purchased a Telkom prepaid SIM card for use while on holiday. At the time of the purchase I enquired if the SIM card would still be active if I only use it once or twice a year and was told that it would be. In Dec we went on holiday to Jeffreys Bay and I took our LTE router with the prepaid SIM card with to use while away. On arrival I phoned Telkom to confirm that the SIM card was still active and was told that it was. I then purchased 10GB of data to use. Once the purchase went through I could not use the data and spent about 5 hours with Telkom over the next 2 days trying to get access to the data. Finally Telkom recommended that I take the SIM card into the nearest Telkom Store (which was 65km away in Port Elizabeth). I then did this and was sent from one Telkom store to another only to be told that the SIM card had been deactivated and therefore I could not use it. The only was forward was to purchase a new SIM (as per the Telkom staff) and another 10GB of data, which was done. I was then able to use the second 10GB on our holiday. On our return I went to the nearest Telkom Store in Pretoria East only to be told that Telkom does not refund data, even though they are at fault. I no longer need to second 10GB of data as I have unlimited Fibre at home, so I was wanting a refund for the error that arose due to the Telkom advice received initially. The Telkom manager then explained that it is Telkom's policy not to refund data bundles. So well done, great customer services, once again Telkom where you customers have to pay for your staff's incompetence!!! I will not be making use of the Telkom Prepaid service going forward but will rather go to one of their competitors who are hopefully more competent. So "Buyer beware" Telkom customer service does not take their customers into account. Please don't make the same mistake that I did...
