Telkom poor service and antiquated business practises

My father died so i went with my mother to get the telephone account transferred into her name. this took about 45 minutes in the Telkom shop. You can only do this in a shop. I asked twice whether we need to pay anything. I was told it was free. On arriving home there is an email requesting us to go back to the shop and pay R700. I had to phone them to find out what it was for. I was told it is a deposit that needs to be paid because my mother has no credit record. So we went back to the shop. We showed them her credit card and current account card and a letter stating that my father's pension is being paid into her account. This was not enough they insisted on the R700. This deposit does not gather interest and is only paid out when you cancel the service. This is ridiculous. So I filled in the same forms to request the phone to be transferred into my name because I have a credit record. 2 weeks later I have heard nothing from them. So I go on their chat line. They can't help I must phone 10210. I phone 10210 they also can't help I must go back to the store. No empathy for our loss and antequted business practises. It is sad that one cannot get a fixed line anywhere else.
