Telkom passing an account I do not owe to a debt collector
I posted on Hellopeter in August 2017 about Telkom’s failure to cancel my fixed line. I was contacted by Telkom and received this reference number: AI ********** where I was told the matter would be sorted out. I followed up with Telkom twice for an update on this matter and received no response so had assumed this issue was sorted out.
I have since arrived back in South Africa for a brief holiday and have been contacted by a debt collector in respect of this Telkom account.
Essentially, I app**** to Telkom on 21 February 2017 to cancel my fixed line as I had moved to fibre through another service provider and no longer required the Telkom line.
I completed the form, attached the required docs and submitted these via the email address identified on the Telkom website. I received an autoreply indicating that my application had been received and that I would be contacted by Telkom within 21 Business days. Needless to say noone from Telkom bothered to contact me.
I then submitted another cancellation request in March once I received another invoice from them.
Telkom were however perfectly happy to continue to bill me for the fixed line. I initially paid my invoice for February and March 2017 but refuse to pay for April and May 2017 as I had requested that my line be cancelled TWICE and do not feel it is fair that I be made to pay Telkom for a service I am no longer using and indeed which I have asked them TWICE to stop providing to me.
Please can someone from Telkom contact me to sort out this debacle.
