Telkom Online Representative "Exclusive Offer".
Today (22 July 2019) I was called at exactly 11:18, the number that called me was: ***. The employee's name and surname is Mr Wandile Kgubane and his employee number is 23405. He called to my number ***) claiming that I have been selected for an exclusive offer and was excited to tell me all about it. I gave him the time to inform me all about the device (it was a router which gives 5 Gigs of data a month) which is in the range of over R100. Then I explained that I already have an existing contract with Telkom whereby the deal is better which I currently pay R139 for 10 Gigs of data. Then he gave up on that sale and proceeded to the next offer which is a Samsung Galaxy A50 for R300 per month (comes with 1 Gig each month and an additional 1 Gig for the first three months).
He again went through the formalities explaining what the offer was about and what I would be paying per month. Then I informed him yet again that I do not have an interest in buying the device, because my current device is better than what he is offering. This time he did not give up on the sale like he did with the previous device he was offering, but was rather determined this time to convince me of a sale. In the conversation I told him that the phone is more of a "want" and not a "need". He then mentioned that I could purchase the device for a loved-one, which I gave attention to.
I asked him for his details so that I can reach back to him if I do decide to take the device, because I know the reason for the call is to make a sale and is commission based and that is how I got his details. He then became impatient, and told me that the process is not that long and asked that I provide my personal details so that he can process things. I declined on that and said I will get back to him, that is when he offered to call me back at 13:00 and mentioned. "You would only get this offer through me...", "Please do not disappoint me...” I then jumped onto the Telkom website while he was on the line to see if his deal was really that exclusive. To my surprise the offer on the Telkom website was R269 for the Samsung Galaxy A50.
I then broke the news to him that the offer on the website is more worthwhile, because on Telkom you get the option for Mo'Nice whereby I pay R25 for 2 Gigs of data which makes his offer not too great (being exclusive and all). I then continued by informing him that this is not the first time a Telkom representative has called me with their "exclusive offer, etc..." That was when the call was ended (NOT BY ME), while I was talking. That is how rude and unprofessional Mr Wandile Kgubane was and if you replay the recording of our conversion you would be amazed.
In conclusion, Telkom please train your staff not to harass clients and have them undergo telephonic etiquette training. Like I mentioned it is not the first time I have heard about these "exclusive offers", but Mr Wandile Kgubane took the cake.
