Telkom & Old Mutual Loyalty Funeral Policy
My Dad registered for the Telkom Funeral Policy managed by Old Mutual which is valid as long as you top up with R100 per month. My dad did this religiously until his passing in November 2018. He told me about this so that I was aware of the policy he had. I researched how to claim and documentation I received from Telkom and on the Old Mutual website it shows you can claim within 1 year of death either via USSD from the cell phone of the policy holder OR by sending an email to a specific Old Mutual email address. I chose to send an email requesting if they have record and confirmation of my dad's policy and they can't do this... there is no way to ever confirm this with anyone. I eventually got a reply from this email address after trying to call the Old Mutual Call Centre number provided on numerous occasions to enquire about this. Never getting through of course... spending 15 or 20 minutes holding is quite pricey on my airtime... Eventually the response was that I can only claim by logging it via USSD which is in contradiction to all How to Claim correspondence published. Well now it is 6 months later and because of no usage Telkom has recycled the number so there is no longer an option to do a USSD claim. So we can claim for a year after death but Telkom recycles unused numbers after 6 months.. now what? Where do i go from here? This policy honestly feels like a **** to hook people in to recharge regularly and then it is so difficult to claim as the person who did everything is deceased and people just give up.
