Telkom not replacing ADSL cables
On about 12 January 2018 our telephone cables were ******. I logged a query and and on 13 January 2018 was given reference no : 99ATK130118 (The no is 016- ********** ) "Hi, we have logged a fault 99ATK130118 for investigation. Feedback will follow as fault progress. ^Frank" On 18 January I requested an estimate of when the service will be restored "Good day it's now been a week and our telephone line and ADSL is still down. Kindly advise when we may expect it to be fixed. Thank you" On 19 January 2018 I received a reply "Hi the fault has been linked to cable theft. 1000, 600, 200 and 400 x2 pair underground cables has been ******. At this stage we are awaiting material. ^Frank" On 24 January 2018 I enquired on the progress "Good day kindly advise on which date the services will be restored. It's frustrating because I have to make use of expensive mobile data to use the Internet. I just have one other question. These copper cables are ****** several times every year. And year after year Telkom just replaces the copper. Will it not be cheaper in the long run to replace it with fiber ? It just makes sense to me. There's an area close to me that has fiber and they are even further away from the exchange than I am. Their fiber runs past the Telkom box on our street corner" On 24 January 2018 I received a reply "Hi, we have requested a progress update. We awaiting feedback and will be in contact with further progress. ^Frank On 26 January 2018 I again requested an update "Any feedback ? Thank you" On 27 January 2018 I received a reply "Hi Hennie, the pending fault reference indicates the cable techs will be starting the jointing of the replacement cable. No ETA as yet and further available updates will be provided as soon as possible. ^Frank" On 2 February 2018 I once again requested an update on the situation "Good day could you kindly provide me with an update. Our services has still not been restored and has been down since about 12 January. It's very frustrating because I still have to pay my ISP although I have not been able to use my Internet. Thank you" On 5 February 2018 I received a reply "Hi Hennie, unfortunately cables won't be replaced. Lte or FLLA will be offered as a replacement. ^Frank So from the beginning I was advised that the cables where ****** and they were awaiting materials. Then on 27 January 2018 I was advised that the cable tech were busy with the jointing of the replacement cables. Then suddenly on 5 February 2018 I'm advised that the cables will not be replaced. I'm working from home and need my Adsl Internet line in order to do my work. For the last month I had to purchase expensive mobile data in order to keep going. I'm now being advised that 3g and FLLA will be offered. There is no way that I can be offered something similar that I have with my current Internet Service provider. I have an ADSL contract with Vox Telecom where I get 300Gb of capped data every month for R159,00. I have about 1.5Tb of rol***** data with them on my account which I cannot use due to our ADSL lines been down. In the meantime I still have to pay them although I can't use the service. So basically I'm going to lose all my data because I'm being advised that Telkom don't want to replace the cables.
We also subscribed to 2 different streaming services and paid in advance for 12 months. All that we cannot use currently because Telkom doesn't want to replace the cables.
So I kindly request you to provide me with some assistance in resolving this issue. I need some internet service with a reasonable amount of data and at a reasonable price.
