Telkom not honouring their contract with their clients
I was using an ADSL line for my home landline and internet. about three weeks back both the landline and internet stopped working and I reported a fault through the Telkom App. I was surprised I was shocked to receive an sms notification that my calls have been successfully attended to and the services were all restored. This was definitely not the case and I therefore decided to log another fault through their call centre. days went by without any feedback until I made a follow up with them on the 23rd February. only then I was given some feedback and the feedback was that this was a copper cable fault from Telkom's side. I was shocked to be told blatantly that they will not be repairing it anymore, instead I was told to go and visit any of their outlets to get my line converted to a wireless LTE. if I didn't make the call I would still be waiting for the technician to come to my house to fix the line. Nevertheless I visited their outlets on he same day to get the new wireless modem. I got so ****ed off when I was told that to get it I must sign a new 24-month contract with them. I was also denied to have a month-to-month contract with them, even if I pay for the modem. right now I have an existing 24-month contract with Telkom that is due to expire on the 29th of May 2020. Telkom is no longer honouring this contract and want me to be bound by another contract with them for 2 more years! That is totally unacceptable, considering that my area is busy with installing fibre cables and we should be up and running within the next few months. when that time comes I need to have the flexibility of being able to move to fibre connection and have a choice of any other service provider that I can use. If I was the one who chooses not to honour the contract, I would be liable to penalties. I think the same should be app**** when the tables are reversed. I did not choose to pull out of the existing contract and therefore the new service needs to be properly negotiated and take my interests into consideration. I want the LTE contract to be still on the remaining months of the existing contract, once it expires I can then decide if I need to continue with a month-to-month with them or take up a new contract with them or any other service providers.
