Telkom mobile "fraught using my details"
I recently found that someone purchased an iphone using my personal details, this was after I app**** for finance to purchase a car, I was told by the dealership that standard bank notified them that my mobile number is different to what they've on their system. I was supriced because I don't bank with standard bank, however I thought maybe they were confusing my number with my wife's contact details as she bank with them (standard bank). I then decide to approach my bank for finance, my bank indicated that there's an outstanding debt of R27 879,00 with Telkom mobile. I then approached Telkom store at the East Rand Mall to further investigate the issue, indeed they confirmed that the number on their system is different to my 2 mobile numbers, they further confirmed that there's a debt of 27 879,00 for an iphone4 which was purchased on 3rd March 2023 online. I was advised to go and do an affidavit at the nearest police station and return to the store for assistance. I went to the Boksburg North Police station, I was assisted by the police, and was told that to open a case I need to go back to the store and request a printout of the details of the person who *****ulently used my details (address/email/mobile number etc). I then drove back to East Rand Mall Telkom store, but unfortunately I was told that they can't provide me with any information/confirmation as requested by the police, though the number was changed on their system to reflect the correct number, I was further told that the matter will be investigated and I will be contacted by head office as soon as they're done with their investigations. My challenge is that I am unable to get finance from the bank as the case is pending (Telkom). My frustration is that Telkom failed to contact/notify me of the "purchase or debt", it took the dealership and my bank to pinpoint the problem for me, I am very disappointed. I can confirm that some years ago I purchased a Samsung phone from the same store, but that contract was fully paid and the number was converted to a prepaid which I am still using. I am really disappointed with the way Telkom is handling this matter, especially the fact that it was so easy it seems for *****s to by an expensive phone using my details, surely the must be a way to trace the *****sters?
