Telkom manipulating and prioritizing streaming services and synthetically increasing latency of other applications in peak times.

I sent this to Telkom online support:

"Hi, I have an enquiry concerning Telkom LTE issues in peak times. During peak times, like clockwork, after 6PM Latency increases by 60-80ms IOW: 80-100ms locally to google's servers, and is restored to 20ms after 11 PM.

Running a speed test gives you between 1 and 5mb/s Download and 10-15 Upload speeds. Running multiple Youtube videos I manage to open 4 tabs at full HD 60fps before getting buffer issues, getting about 7-15mb/s Download speeds. Now I know Youtube uses multiple connections to get faster download speeds much like P2P applications, so I thought I would test that theory: I started downloading a file on P2P application with 10 000 seeds, to test and see if multiple connections increased my download activity. It did, but not significantly, only got to about 7mb/s Download speeds. I tested ping to 8.8.8.8 and my pings went 2000ms as expected when at bandwidth limit. However with 4 youtube tabs I got only about 400ms spikes. Can you maybe explain why this is?"

Now I Explained I was talking about Telkom LTE, and that Youtube is responsive, but other applications suffer due to high latency and packet loss.

Telkom Support said they cannot log a call as my internet is not off, but they will enquire as to the prioritization of certain applications.

I said thank you, and that it is frustrating especially in gaming as the packet loss and high latency greatly affects gameplay.

Today the latency to google's 8.8.8.8 has increased to between 140 and 160 ms, youtube is still very responsive, and can play full HP1080p 60 FPS videos without problem, but speedtests yield under 1mb/s download speeds, and games are unplayable. Since youtube works like a charm, it is obvious that Telkom is manipulating and artificially throttling during peak times. This is disengenious and a breach of contract, as no such throttling has been mentioned for capped packages. I am seriously considering other wireless options, as this is totally unacceptable for a mainstream ISP. I can't wait for Space X's Starlink to reach international markets, they will destroy this hegemony.
