Telkom is violating my consumer protection rights.
I had a data contract with telkom which was due to end at the end of February 2026. I tried to cancel the contract in February however I was unable to since the account was in arrears. My account was then suspended by telkom. At the end of May Telkom debited my account with the outstanding amount of R3168 from my bank account. My number was still suspended throughout the month of June. I was under the false assumption that my account was closed. There was no debit in June. On the 25th of July there was a debit order of R349 on my account. My monthly installment was previously R369 as per the contract. I then called Telkom to query this and I was told I owed an amount of R1316. I was confused as to how this came about as my account has been suspended since February, I have not been using the data which apparently I have been billed for . I am told that I was billed every month from May even though my account was suspended and I was not using their service. Telkom told me to pay this amount before I can cancel the contract.
Yesterday Telkom continued to deduct a R100 then R349 from my account. I am livid. Firstly they continue to bill me but receiving no data in return. My account is still suspended which is not legal. I want my contract cancelled . This is against the CPA.
