Telkom is *********!!
A few months ago, Telkom came and replaced our router with a new one. We were only told that Telkom was doing this to all the houses in the area. Nothing else.
They phoned on the day and said they were on their way to our house and we should have someone open for them.
That was around December / beginning January.
We haven't been impressed since the new router was installed. The telephone line sounds hollow and isn't really clear.
Since lockdown started, both my husband and I have been working from home. The internet has been off since about the 9th or 10th April.
We contacted our internet service provider, Afrihost, who has confirmed that all is in order on their side (this after numerous call logging to Telkom which has gone unnoticed as the line is also faulty. It rings, but when you answer you cannot hear / talk to the person on the other side). Afrihost then informed us that the Telkom router works on a SIM card and cannot use a 3rd party service provider. Which means 1. I have been paying Afrihost for 4 months for NOTHING 2. Telkom deliberately installed a router that would not let us make use of a 3rd party, WITHOUT informing us. This is completely *********.
Today when I eventually managed to get hold of Telkom on the phone, all they could say was "oh, you should have been informed about this - you can either a) upgrade or b) buy a data bundle for your SIM. ALL of which will cost us EXTRA money!!! And ALL this money goes STRAIGHT to Telkom. I am appalled by the way that Telkom *****ed us and that all they do when found out is shrug their shoulders with an "oh well" attitude. It is a disgusting way to conduct business.
Telkom should be held liable for all the wasted money that we paid to Afrihost. They should have informed us of ALL the implications around the new modem. They should have given us options!!!
