Telkom is sneaky
I have had an adsl internet line from Telkom for the past for years. Mitchells Fibre is installing fibre in Mitchell's Plain. In September Telkom phoned me and told me that they moving everyone in my area over to LTE as they are having problems with the copper cables in my area that the cables are being ******.
I asked Telkom consultant if this is a new contract and he assured me it is not and that I will be paying only R400 a month for the LTE to my R600 a month on ADSL. I asked him again if it is a new contract and he said no because of the problems with the copper lines that they moving everyone over.
I received my first LTE bill from Telkom with was a pro rata bill of nearly R700 to the R400 I was told. October's bit was R405 and then Novembers bill which was almost R200 more with it being R598. I cancelled my Telkom as I had the fibre activated for R399 a month on a 20mbp line.
I recieved a call from Telkom cancellation department and the consultant told me that I would have to pay a penalty because it is a 2year contract that i was in. I told her I did not sign anything or upgrade online as the consultant told me that they moving everyone over to LTE because of problems with the ADSL copper lines. Also when I log into the Telkom dashboard it does not stat that it is a contract and the ending date of the contract whereas when I was the ADSL and logged into the dashboard it told me when the contract is ending and that I signed a contract.
