Telkom ***** is ruining my credit rating
The short version: Telkom is damaging my credit rating due to their inaction on a reported *****ulent account. Full version: In 2021 someone *****ulently opened a Telkom account using my personal information without my knowledge or consent. The first I became aware of it, was when Telkom started debiting my FNB Account in August 2021. I immediately contacted FNB and reversed the payment. All went quiet until Dec 2021 when more unauthorized debit orders went off, which I also reversed. Finally in Feb 2022 I instructed FNB to cease any payments to Telkom. FNB advised that I also contact Telkom to report the *****, which I duly did via their Telkom ***** WhatsApp line. I was given a reference number (631931) and thought the matter closed. Life went on until earlier this year (2023), when debt collection agencies started phoning me about my overdue Telkom account. Every time I explained that I do not have, nor have I ever had a Telkom account and that it was *****. Again, I forgot about these calls as they seem irrelevant because I know I don't have a Telkom account & do not owe them any money. I have to date received no communication directly from Telkom or their ***** department. Then earlier this week my husband & I started applying for a home loan & low and behold, the home loan officer requested that I present a letter stating that all monies owed to Telkom has been paid, or they could not process our home loan application further. I was shocked. I immediately went to the Police & made an affidavit, then visited a Telkom store to present the affidavit, but the best the store could do was e-mail their internal ***** department. The current negative status on my credit record is impacting my family's ability to apply for a home loan. It is truly devastating that this ******** act might cause us to lose our opportunity for our dream home.
