Telkom is getting rid of their low income and pensioner customers.

Telkom is getting rid of their low income and pensioner customers. I can assure you that I will not be the first nor the last Telkom customer that will be cancelling my service. Telkom made decisions and it shows they are not acting nor providing in their individual customers’ needs. I am a Telkom pensioner and was boarded due to my health. I don’t use my home line for anything else than making a few calls and for mainly receiving calls. I was informed via sms and email that my normal line will be switched over to their new Smart Voice 300 plan for R399.00. I started to contact Telkom to express that I don’t want my service to be changed over, as I don’t need internet, and that I simply can’t afford any extra costs. I was contacted back by one of the Telkom agents, whose name and surname I did take down, and was informed firstly, that my service will need to be changed, even if it has to be at a lower package of R199.00 per month which include free calls. I requested that she should take a look at my previous accounts and to confirm that my account has never exceeded R50.00, it has been under R20.00 for the last 8 to 10 months if not longer. I was secondly informed that I will lose my pensioner rebate, as it will not be possible to have that on the new package. What a shoc**** I then informed her that I will then have no other choice that to cancel my service. She asked if she can speak to her manager to see if there is a way that I can keep my service as is. She contacted me back and informed me that I will need to take the lowest package at least. This now tells me that Telkom wants to get rid of all their low income as well as pensioner customers who can simply not afford to pay these amounts, when I stated this to her and asked her if she agree that all the customers that can’t afford this new plans will need to cancel their services, she confirmed with me that we will then lose our services. If this is not a slap in our faces that I don’t know what will be a better way of putting it. This means that Telkom is in the process of getting rid of all the customers that can’t afford even the lowest package. This is brutal ************** between low income and high income customers. Why must we be forced to cancel or lose our services just because we can’t afford these costs?
