Telkom insisting on thumb print from deceased..
My Telkom landline was changed to a mobile device some years ago. We have been struggling with reception and I purchased a new device which can still accept the older type big sim card. This did not last and signal was often lost.
I tried to do a sim swap by first dialing 10210 and subsequently 10213. I was told the phone was not registered in my name after I did transfer it some years ago since my sister in law shared a flat with my wife and I when I was still a student.
She passed away in July 2020 and I was told I should visit a Telkom shop with my proof of residence and ID as well as a copy of her ID and a copy of her death certificate.
I visited Telkom at Woodhill on Saturday morning 18/06/2022 and was told at the entrance that they required a thumb print of the person transferring the phone number.
I showed the copy of the death certificate and was told they could not help without her thumb print.
I was so upset that I went to Vodacom and purchased a new sim card.
Totally ridiculous..
