Telkom ineptitude and poor service

After a week of poor internet connectivity (constant adsl sync issues) and poor line quality (telephone calls) a technician finally turned up. We were advised that we are too far from the exchange and that our line cannot support our contract speed of 10Mbps.

We went to our local branch (Richards Bay) and dealt with a wonderful consultant by the name of Fanele Nzuza. He appears to be the only employee of Telkom willing to assist its customers.

After speaking to another consultant on the phone we were advised to email "Service Cancellation" in order for them to downgrade our line speed to 4Mbps. Mr Nzuza emailed them on our behalf and Cc'd us in. This was on 22 July.

After multiple calls to your call centre we still await an email response or a return phone call from the cancellation department. In the meantime we have been forced to use our mobile data as well as mobile phones to call your call centre repeatedly. All the while we continue to pay our R900 a month for a service we are unable to use.

Lastly the fact that we were sold a 10Mbps line when we are so far from the exchange and have such poor line quality is utterly disgusting. Surely when upgrading a line a simple check will be done by your consultants to determine whether such speeds are even remotely feasible or will result in constant dsl synchronisation issues etc. Just in case you feel that I am overreacting I will provide a few stats. With a SNR of 2-5db and a downstream attenuation of 54-57 it doesn't take an IT expert to realise that this will end badly.
