Telkom incompetence and misinformation cost me money!
Since Christmas 2018, my home landline and Adsl internet connection has been down 3 times for extended periods of time due to alleged cable theft. Telkom will never inform affected residents in the area as to the cause of the interruption nor expected time period to effect repairs. That said, 3 weeks after the last interruption, I was eventually told by Telkom technicians and also by the helpline that the cause was once again cable theft and that Telkom would not be replacing the cable again and that I was to contact their Sales department and apply for a wireless setup. I was incensed at being forced to go wireless route and utilize LTE for the internet. LTE costs an arm and a leg, especially if one uses a minimum of 200GB of data a month. I duly went and saw Sales and was told the same story. I then cancelled my phone connection and my ADSL fastest package as they said they would no longer be supplying this service to me. I was also told that I had to cancel my Fault report in order for the cancellation of the account to proceed. I then opted for Webafricas 200GB LTE package at considerable cost (R845 plus R200 courier fees to be exact). Telkom informed me that it would take roughly 6 weeks to finalize the cancellation of my account. Lo and behold, 2 weeks after cancelling with Telkom, I get a call from a technician on a Sunday morning who calmly asks me if I am satisfied with the repairs to the line and if my phone now works. Stunned, I inform him of Telkom's decision not to replace the ****** cable and being told my only alternative was to go the wireless route. I tell him that I have cancelled my account due to this feedback. The technician apologizes and informs me that THEY HAVE REPLACED THE ****** CABLE and that he knows how I must feel. How can he possibly know how I feel. I had that Telkom number for 38 years and I am now over a Thousand rands out of pocket due to their incompetence and misinformation. I contact Telkom and am told that it is still not too late to stop the cancellation of the account but that they can do nothing about having signed up for the Webafrica account. I feel that the very least Telkom should do in this case is to cover my out of pocket cost due to their incompetence and misinformation. They should also restore my landline and adsl connection asap. They should also keep residents informed when there are bulk service interruption and last but not least, be sure of facts and not spread misinformation. Sadly, I feel that Telkom management wont even have the decency to respond to this complaint.
