Telkom Incompetence

We run a charity in the South of Johannesburg. As missionaries our money is limited and when Telkom advertised the Free Me packages, we jumped at it for a 30 Gig LTE pakage at our home in Oakdene! This has turned out to be one of the worst decisions that we have ever made!

1, At first, the package was sold to us, but there is no Telkom LTE coverage in Oakdene. The sale took place at the Telkom Centre in The Glen on the 12th of August 2016.

2. After the installation we returned to complain at Telkom that there is no signal.

3. A Telkom technician was sent to our house and he agreed that the signal was very bad. He told us to remove the single strand Aerial and to purchase a double strand Aerial from Telkom at the Glen, as this might improve the signal. Failing this, he offered to sell us a special Aerial at a private cost of R3000. We do not have the money and therefore we installed a double strand Aerial.

4. After installation of the double strand Aerial, the signal showed no improvement.

5. We contacted Telkom and asked them to cancel the contract, as there is no signal. The lady that helped us checked the coverage and she agreed that there is no LTE coverage in Oakdene. We were issued with a cancellation form, which we completed and she assured us that the matter will be settled in 30 days!

6. Now this is where the real fun started. After the 30 day period nothing happened and eventually we lodged another complaint, only to be told that the technician had not submitted a report and that another technician would have to be sent!

7. In the meantime we had no signal at home. My wife marks assignments for a large Theological College and we were forced to go and buy an MTN ****le at a huge price!

8. The second Telkom technician arrived and he agreed after all kinds of tests that the signal was very bad. He assured us that he will submit his report and that our troubles would soon be over.

9. Sadly it was not! Today, 14/01/2017 we visited the Telkom centre again and a lady showed us our account details. No technician's report was submitted, the cancellation form does not show and the correspondences on the account reflect a state of confusion. phahlale- ********** 5-21/9/2016. dpreezu- ********** 5-25/10/16. dingalnd- ********** 3-31/10/16. delob- ********** 5-31/10/16. lcomanam- ********** 0-4/11/16.

10. An amount of R499 is deducted from our bank every month for a useless LTE thing that sits in a box at our home. Besides this, we had to pay for MTN services on our PC every month and our Telkom HueWai phone is connected on a Telkom/MTN share deal. We demand that this contract be cancelled immediately and that our monthly payments be refunded. Failing this, we reserve our rights to institute legal action.

Dear Keagan,

Regarding Ref: A ********** 4.

Our problem was resolved yesterday 16/1/2017 by the Telkom CEO,s office.

Unbelievable that this happened to us and I am battling to understand what lessons we are to learn from this. How can a problem that dragged for months be solved in 1 day?

The only answer that emerges is thatthere is is a serious lack of customer care and responsibility.

It is one thing to chase sales and performance and quite another to have everything undone by a bad reputation.

Thank you you or your response.

Kind regards,

Stephen.
