Telkom - how can you offer a communication service when you do not communicate!

I have ongoing problems with Telkom. In January this year (and many times previously) I was without internet for quite some time. Not getting anywhere with the Call Centre I eventually at the end of January drove to the next town to visit a Telkom office as the Telkom office closed in our town some years back. I bought a portable Mobile Wifi modem they connected to my ADSL data so that if the ADSL line failed, I would be able to still use my ADSL data from this which works through MTN plus it would be loaded every month with 500mg data. Great at least I could still use the internet with my paid for 20GB ADSL data.

Towards the beginning of this month, my telephone line became unusable as it is so noisy. I reported the fault on 3rd April and shortly thereafter I reported that the internet was once again very slow and erratic, sometimes works and sometimes not. Not a problem I used the portable modem. Then it stopped working. I then found out that from 01 April, the usage of ADSL data was no longer available on the modem and Telkom now give 1GB monthly. When that runs out, I am to purchase more data. I still have data outstanding on my ADSL line but when the internet doesn't work, that doesn't help me.

All I can establish for a couple of weeks now is that my fault has been handed to a technician. The Call Centre cannot tell me when the problem is going to be solved permanently, when the technician will get here and despite numerous requests, no Technical Manager or anyone beyond the poor staff in the Call Centre ever calls back to give feedback. Are there actually any managers left in Telkom or anybody in authority who one can get to to talk to. The Call Centre staff are just the postbox but what happens thereafter.

Telkom's main function is COMMUNICATION, at least that is my understanding. Telkom will you please start communicating with your customers.

I require the service I am paying for and if you can't supply it, at least have the common decency to tell me instead of 'the fault has been handed to a technician' and no, we don't know when your line will be restored.

The time is well overdue for some competition in this area.

Living in hope that some Telkom official with the authority to get my line fixed asap will do so very soon and give me a call

Only response received from Telkom was asking me for my details. I gave them straight away and still waiting to hear when my phone line and intermittent internet is going to be restored. If they cannot solve the problem, then they should offer an alternative at their cost until such time as they repair the faults. If they cannot repair, then they should advise customers and customers can look elsewhere for satisfactory service.
