TELKOM GIVES CONTRACT TO 100 YEAR OLD LADY!!!
My 73 year old mother wanted to reduce the cost of her telkom account (landline, internet & mobile). I went with her to discuss this as I have a little more knowledge than her. We went to the Table Bay Mall and were assisted by Tariq who was incredibly helpful and patient and explained everything until we both understood and were happy with the way forward. The idea was that she cancel her internet and landline and in order to avoid a double deduction the following month open an data contract.
At the end of the month we went to go and open the data contract (with router), however Tariq was not available and we were assisted by someone else. He first wanted her to supply bank statements and payslips etc, we said that she already has a contract with Telkom and has been with them for more than 30 years. He then checked the computer and said yes no problem she can get the contract without the bank statements, he just needed her ID. We were there to supply any further information he may require. He didn't ask for anything. My mom got the contract with router and he activated it and we went home. The following day my mother phoned me to say she was reading through the contract (we weren't able to do it in store as it was all online and he only gave a copy after signature just before we left). In the contract he had gotten her ID number right, but had put her date of birth as year 1919 (she'd be 100!!!!!!!!!) he put her passport expiry date as 2045 (doubt passports are valid for more than 25 years and he didn't need her passport as she's a SA citizen!!!). THATS NOT ALL!! He thumb-sucked her income, and put her employer's contact number as HER OLD TELKOM LANDLINE NUMBER!!! She's a pensioner!!! I am absolutely disgusted that this is allowed to happen and heaven knows how many other people this has been done to as not many people really read their contracts as its supposed to all be explained.
