Telkom - fibre migration for landline SUCKS!!!!!
We live in George, and have had the misfortune of a forced migration from our normal landline to the Fibre line. Telkom telephonically advise us of this and that they would be sending us the relative new handset via courier. This duly arrived and we did not instal as our line was still active. A few days later we had a call from a family member on the mobile phone to enquire why there was no reply on our landline - so we knew that we had been switched. We connected up the phone - only to discover that the LCD screen is cracked and a black space on the right hand side. We took the phone to the Telkom shop at Garden Route Mall. The lady took down methodically wrote the story on the "work order" and took the phone in "for repair" (no replacement available); they would let us know the outcome!? A week later my husband gets a call from a technician to say that phone is damaged due to a Lightening strike ( really in George???) and unrepairable. We assume they are replacing the phone - laugh is on us!!!! We go to collect the "new" phone from the Garden Route Mall shop - after an hour's wait in the queue - it is the identical broken phone we handed in and she happily says the technician says its unrepeatable??? You Think???? The phone is functional in that you can make a call but you cannot see what numbers you are inputting on the screen!! Duly tossed my toys out the cot - she goes to supervisor hiding in the back of the shop behind locked doors - comes back and says she can escalate the problem!! We took the damaged phone home only because I need to be in contact with my 96 year old mother overseas and mbile to overseas is too expensive. She has supposedly passed our problem up the line but we are not holding our breath. So - message to those of you out there that may want/have to go the fibre route for telephones - make sure the phone you get is not damaged before you accept it. We had no choice!!!
