Telkom Fibre Cancellation: Service ends, billing doesn’t
I am posting this publicly after exhausting multiple resolution attempts with Telkom regarding continued debit orders on a fibre contract that has already been terminated.
I communicated directly with the department responsible for terminating the B-number associated with the fibre service, yet debit orders continue to be processed against my bank account despite the contract having ended.
Over an extended period, I have repeatedly attempted to resolve this matter through Telkom support channels. Instead, I have been transferred between departments, redirected to the app and chatbot systems, or received automated responses without any meaningful resolution. I also find it concerning that there appears to be no accessible history of communication through these support channels.
My bank has advised me that the debit order references being used by Telkom continue changing, which prevents standard stop-debit mechanisms from consistently blocking the transactions. As a result, I continue incurring:
* debit reversal fees, * failed debit charges, * late payment penalties with other service providers, * and ongoing financial prejudice for a service that was already cancelled.
What makes this situation even more frustrating is that I am now also being contacted by debt collectors acting on behalf of Telkom regarding this disputed matter.
I have explained the full situation to more than 15 separate collection agents over time, including that:
* the fibre contract was terminated, * the account is formally disputed, * and debit orders are still being processed despite repeated complaints and disputes.
The collection agents themselves have advised me that they are unable to halt collection activity unless instructed to do so by Telkom and have suggested escalation through ICASA.
Despite all of these disputes, explanations, bank reversals, and collection discussions, another debit order was still processed against my account on the 26th of May.
At this stage, I have retained records of:
* cancellation communications, * debit order references, * bank disputes, * reversal charges, * debt collection interactions, * and correspondence attempts.
If this matter cannot be resolved promptly, I will proceed with formal escalation through ICASA, the relevant Ombud channels, and consumer protection structures.
