In March of this year, I called Telkom to notify them that I wanted my phone service to be terminated

(land and ADSL lines) I was told that my request would be processed within 30 working days. At the time, my bill was just over R300.

2 months later, I began receiving messages from Telkom; threatening legal action if I didn't pay my outstanding bill of R860,00!

I was baffled and furious, but because I did not want my credit record to be stained, I agreed on a payment plan with the debt company, WHICH I PAID IN FULL.

I then went directly to a Telkom store, picked up a service cancellation form, filled it in and e-mailed it to ********** Within a couple of minutes, I had received an e-mail confirmation from Telkom that my request would be processed within 21 working days.

The very next day, I received ANOTHER sms from Telkom, demanding ANOTHER R330,00.

I contacted the call center immediately, and the lady that I spoke to explained that the bill was for the month of March (which still made no sense to me, because I paid my March bill).

She said that she would request that I be credited for the outstanding amount, seeing as I have not used my account's services since March. I was told that it would take up to 7 working days for that request to be processed.

NOW TODAY, I've just received yet ANOTHER sms from Telkom threatening me with legal action and demanding money that I DO NOT OWE - this time R724,82.

This, despite the facts that:

1) I paid what I owed in full

2) I closed my account AGAIN last week (July 18th).

3) My account has been inactive since March 31st.

4) According to Telkom, my account has been suspended since April.

5) I NEVER asked for my account to be re-activated after I settled my bill.

The fact that I had to pay an excess of approx R550,00 when my original March balance was just over R300, was bad enough, but I took responsibilty for my role in that misunderstanding (it was explained to me that my initial cancellation request wasn't processed because I didn't submit a cancellation request form) but now I feel like Telkom is taking advantage of me and the situation.

How did my balance jump up to over R300 again, just days after I settled my bill and closed my account?

How did my balance DOUBLE just less than a week later?

Again, I have not used your services services in 4 MONTHS.

I feel like I am being harrassed at this point, and Telkom are behaving like loansharks.

The thing is, I don't owe you anything!
