Telkom Disaster

On the 23th of October I went to the Telkom store in Gateway, Durban, to sign up for a new data package for my business. At the store they convinced me to take the 10GB Daytime Data and 5 GB Night time Data Package. The next day on the 24th of October the contract was activated. They told me that seeing that there was only a week left of the month that they will give me 5GB of data for the rest of the month.

2 Days later on the 26th of October the data was depleted. On the 27th I had to go online and purchased 1 GB of data so we could stay connected at the office. I also went to the Telkom store on the27th to ask them how it was possible that I could use up 5 GB of data in 2 days. I wanted to cancel my contract because to me it was already clear that there was something big wrong. The guy at Telkom convinced me that they may not have given me 5 GB for the rest of the month and suggested that I waited till November when I received my full data package. (10 GB daytime and 5 GB Night time). The next month, on the 10th of November my data was again depleted. I went to the store to ask them for an explanation of how we could use 10 GB in 10 days when:

· There is only 1 laptop connected to the modem ( AUTO UPDATES HAVE BEEN SWITCHED OFF)

· There are 2 cell phones connected ( AUTO UPDATES SWITCHED OFF)

· All we do in the office is internet and emails

· NO downloads, NO games, no watching of any videos in the internet!

I have 1GB of data on my phone and I do not even finish that in 1 month. I do exactly the same things on cell phone. When I went to the store on the 10th, they put me on the phone with some technical person who confirmed that my data was depleted. Upon asking where the data went he said that he could for instance see that on the 9th of November between 2 am and 3: 15 am I used 6, 6 GB of Data???? That is COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE!! The office was closed at the time and every end of the day we switch the laptop off, put it in a bag and lock it away??!!

I called again today 11th of November to enquire about the status of my dispute on which they rep**** that they were still busy with it. One would imagine that when it comes to a business there would be better service, because a business cannot operate without internet.

I then asked the lady if she could connect us because we desperately needed the internet. She then said that she would put an extra 1 GB on our account and connect us. When I put the phone down I tried to connect to the internet to see if I could and check the status of my Vodacom account. It showed that I just purchased 1 GB, but that there was only 200MB left?? One minute after that the data was depleted?? How could we have used 1 GB in 5 minutes by just starting up the computer?? There must be something big wrong here. When I wanted to close my account they said that I would have to pay R4800!! Can anybody advise how I can get out of this contract? I am sure if this does not get resolved soon that I will have legal grounds and that the ombudsman will be able to help me close my account.
